We are currently hiring Counselors to plan and implement activities for the children involved in our Hallandale Beach YMCA Family Center Afterschool Program. Afterschool Counselors are responsible for the daily supervision and safety of a group of up to 15 children.

Job Duties: 
•Conduct and maintain daily attendance records for a group of up to 15 children.  
•Provide safety and supervision to a group of 15 children.  
•Ensure that Y Program curriculum and activities are planned and followed for the children. 
•Communicate with parents / guardians.
•Assist children with their homework on a daily basis.  
•Ensure that safety rules and practices are followed as they relate to children and staff. Consequences for ignoring safety practices or engaging in unsafe behavior may result in termination of employment.
•Other tasks assigned.
•All other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Director.
Min. Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) •High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
•Must be able to assist children with homework in the English language.

Job Duties:
•Lead engaging class experience that is challenging, yet safe, and able to be modified to fit the needs of the target audience.
•Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being. 
•Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
•Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
•Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
•Ensure that all necessary equipment is set up for class, and inspect equipment to be sure that it is in safe working order.  
•Ensure that class is set up to start and end on time.
•Monitor that fitness room is neat and equipment used during a class is returned to its proper location in an organized manner before leaving.  Instructors are responsible for providing their own music suitable for a family setting.
•Report injuries to Healthy Living Director and / or Executive Director and complete the proper paperwork immediately following any injury.  This information must be reported to the Human Resources Department within 24 hours of incident. Serious injuries must be called in to Human Resources immediately. 
•Ensure that there is a substitute instructor, if you are unable to teach your assigned class. 
•Partner with Healthy Living Director to develop special events that promote fitness and meet community fitness needs.

Min. Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) Requirements:
•Current National Certification from one of the following organizations: ASFA, AFAA, ACSM, ACE, ISSA, NETA or AFPA.

• Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to beginning of work shift.  
• Ensure the safety of all members in the pool area by supervising all YMCA recreational swimming and/or swim lessons in a responsible manner.
• Ensure that necessary lifeguard equipment is on deck during work time, and put away when not on duty. 
• Develop and maintain good relations with parents, program participants, and pool site management staff.
• Maintain water chemistry as scheduled and report any concerns. 
• Treat minor accidents as necessary and take appropriate actions for all incidents / accidents, as outlined in the YMCA Risk Management procedures.
• Bring to the Aquatic Director's attention any condition or practice which may cause an unsafe circumstance to the health and safety of members and guests.
• Use preventive life guarding techniques to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
• Apply rules and policies of the YMCA Lifeguard Manual.
• Assist in creating schedules and emergency substituting.

 Two or more years of experience participating in, or working with aquatics and swim lessons, preferred.
