Welcome to CareerSource Broward! You are truly in the right place with the right people. Your search for a first job, a new job, or a new career should begin with a career self-assessment. When you visit any of our centers, you will receive assistance in accessing several self-assessment tools including the staff-assisted TORQ assessment. If you are unable to visit one of our centers but have access to a computer, you can quickly conduct a career self-assessment by registering in Employ Florida.
The next and perhaps the most critical element of an effective job search is your network of contacts. Your success in finding that next right job, may depend on how big your network is or if it has the right people in it. If it has been some time before you have been invited to an interview or have received a returned phone call, it may be time to look at creating a more effective network for yourself. Think about building your network by volunteering in your chosen industry or for local causes or by joining social organizations. These groups are filled with interesting members who can connect you to people you might not usually meet. Check out our networking resource here. You may also want to check out our Social Networking Workshop. This workshop will instruct you on tapping into the "hidden job market" by using social media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn with tips on conducting an online job search, finding decision makers, and utilizing social network websites to help you make new career connections. Having a well drafted résumé is very important. The résumé is the primary written tool of the job seeker. It is your marketing tool to help you get an interview. Many job seekers may already have a résumé, however, if you do not, each CareerSource Broward center has software that can quickly help you prepare one with little or no assistance. We also offer a Résumé Workshop that will instruct you on the different résumé styles, as well as the importance of using keywords in your résumé and what hiring managers respond to most. Click here for times and center locations.
If you already have a résumé, but it is not receiving attention from HR managers, you should consider attending one of our Résumé Critique sessions. These sessions give you a one-on-one access to one of our experts who can help you fine tune your résumé. If your schedule does not permit attending a session, feel free to stop by and have your résumé reviewed by one of our staff members. Often, our staff have found misspellings or poor punctuation. Ensure that you are making the best first impression by letting our staff review your résumé.
Now that your résumé has been fine-tuned by one of our staff members, it's time to prepare for your upcoming interviews. An interview is your opportunity to show an employer that you are the right fit for the job. If you know interviewing is not your best attribute, you should attend our interview workshop.
