It is a goal of CareerSource Broward (CSBD) to support the Six Pillars Plan for local economic development as put together by community leaders in Broward County.
One of the ways we support this initiative is by providing an online resource to a local Educational Asset Inventory, which can be tied to certain targeted industries, the occupations most prominent in those industries, and the education & training resources necessary to support and expand the talent pool for those occupations. Using this inventory to help plan a job search or career change in a local targeted industry, as aligned with the Six Pillars Plan, involves a simple three-step process.
Step 1: Broward County’s Targeted Industries
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has identified 10 sectors as its primary focus for attraction, relocation and expansion efforts. These industries were selected based on multiple factors including existing businesses, workforce availability, environmental concerns and industry trends.
Click here for the details on the local industries and to see the various occupations by their formal Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational title, which are the most prominent in those industries.
Step 2: Research the Occupations for Entry-level Wages, Entry Requirements, and Other Important Information.
The Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) can be used to pull Labor Market Information specific to the occupational titles upon review of the Targeted Industries in Step 1, above, which a jobseeker may find of interest. Please read through this entire section before proceeding.
Once you are ready, click here to go to EFM. Once on the main title page, you can log in if you have an account but, if not, you can still research data as a guest. To do this, scroll down the main login page to the box labeled 'Employers' and click on the link for 'Labor Market Information'. Note: this research applies regardless if you are an employer or a jobseeker; although the link is placed under the 'Employers' section.
On the Labor Market Services screen, you will see a link for 'Occupational Profile'. Click there and you will be brought to a multi-tabbed search page. The very first tab is for 'Occupations by Keyword'. In the search box there, type the occupational title obtained from your industry search in Step 1, above; you will be given a list of matching choices. Click the choice closest to the occupational title you have entered, and you will be given a wealth of information on wage rates for the national, state, and local levels where these are known; along with educational and training requirements, the size of the local job demand and talent pools, and so on.
Step 3: Find Training
Once you have determined an occupation of interest, you may proceed to the CareerOneStop site by clicking below:
